La barcarolata
The splendid setting of Portobello Bay of Sestri Levante becomes the stage under the stars of the suggestive Barcarolata, the last Sunday of July.
The event, organized by the Municipality of Sestri Levante and Lega Navale, is a real parade on the sea: tourists and citizens compete in decorating goiters with paper mache, multicolored lights and carnival costumes. At the end, a great fireworks spectacle multiplies the charm of the sea at night.
The event was conceived by Giovanni Magnelli of the tourist office in the 1960s.
A classic summer event of the Ligurian Riviera. Between music and institutional and non-institutional guests, thousands of people gather on the beach to watch the show, enjoying a breathtaking natural setting, highlighted by fireworks.
A prestigious jury judges the boats, which parade from 9.30 p.m., to reward the most beautiful and original one.
